Charlie Chaplin Centennial 1914-2014

Charlie Chaplin is for the ages

35 notes

98 years ago today March 18th 1915 this Essanay film was released.

Coming to the end of his contract with Keystone Studios - he and Mack Sennett had not come to terms on a new contract, Mack thought it foolish for Charlie to leave feeling he would not fare well - this is what Charlie said to him:

I told Sennett:

“All I need to make a comedy is a park, a policeman and a pretty girl.”

Charles Chaplin “My Autobiography” - 1964

Charlie Chaplin did many successful short films with just this combination.

The bottom picture is a staged photo and I just noticed people in the background looking on.
