Charlie Chaplin Centennial 1914-2014

Charlie Chaplin is for the ages

DOUGH AND DYNAMITE -

Released 99 years ago today - October 26, 1914

This was one of Charlie’s most financially successful Keystones - it made $130,000 = $3 million in 2013, not bad for a 30 minute short and the fact not everyone had access to movies in 1914.

Movie “Tillie’s Punctured Romance” actually grossed more but was a Marie Dressler film with Charlie Chaplin as a co star.

One of the first films where he touches on social issues, this one being striking workers, he would visit this again in “Behind the Screen” with a similar ending.

A couple of great and not often seen close-ups of Chaplin in this especially at the end.
