Paper Dolls “Charlie Chaplin & Paulette Goddard” - circa 1940’s.

Paper dolls were a big thing for little girls to play with until the 1970’s.

I like the 3d picture where it shows Charlie (in some kind of bathing costume/suit) trying to get with Paulette in a cute little red suit.  I know I’m acting silly…I should actually be billing Medical Insurance companies at work and not playing around on the internet:), I needed a break from the boredom.

After there escape from the Police Wagon the tramp and the gamine sit down to get to know each other.
The tramp and the gamine were more like buddies than any hint of a romance, though ironically they were living together at this time. Paulette played an almost female little tramp.

This is a sweet moment with Hannah and the jewish barber, up on the roof top, his barber shop had just been bombed, Hannah was trying to inspire him by looking at the beauty of the moon and the stars, these could never be taken away by dictators.

MODERN TIMES -  FEBRUARY 5, 1936

Seventy-six years ago , the Silent Era ended.

The ending came with little fanfare on Sierra Highway near Agua Dulce, California. The only people on-site to witness the finale were the stars and crew of the film Modern Times, who were there to film the iconic final scene.

“Sierra Hwy. & Penman Rd., Santa Clarita, California, USA”

This is a photo of Paulette Goddard and Charlie on the set of The Great Dictator.  Even though by this time in 1940 Charlie Chaplin was 51 years old and had said good bye to the tramp in Modern Times (1936), you can still the impish grin of the young tramp in his face.

Ironic that though Paulette Goddard and Charlie Chaplin were a couple and living together at this time,  - the tramp and the gamine had a strictly platonic relationship, they were more like buddies on an adventure…. In The Great Dictator there was a spark of a romance between the Jewish barber and Hannah.
